![]() I have used MapInfo (the Microsoft knock off of Esri) for this and it doesn't match the sheer robustness of Smallworld. ![]() ![]() I've said many times, Smallworld is not user friendly, it's user combative, it will test you.Īrc is really good at making stuff look pretty, but that's not what Smallworld is about, Smallworld is about keeping records, and linking those records to specific objects, and linking those objects with other objects that have their own records, and making sure that the network functions as it's supposed to, and for that, it is a very good tool. You are right on Map Production, Smallworld only grudgingly gives you the option and will fight you all the way. That's the update button, and it's saved me from a lot of fuck ups. Not only does it take forever due to how slow the program is, you have to save every single time you edit something, otherwise any changes you made won't stay if say, you click something else then come back My particular job however was editing things on the fly, which you can do with just a file manager.Įdit attributes is a test of patience. ![]() The job I just left had several ways to edit, most of them based on linking to financial records. A lot of it does depend on your organization.
